David Eby is taking action for the environment

Environment is an important issue for all of us in Vancouver-Point Grey and David needs your support in this election to protect communities and ensure a livable future for the next generation. In this update, David shares a message to Vancouver-Point Grey about the environment and the action he and the BC NDP are taking.

Hi. It's David Eby. I'm running for MLA in Vancouver Point Grey. I'm also the leader of the BC NDP. I'm here to talk about the environment, and I know it's such an important issue for so many people in Vancouver Point Grey.

Our, government, if we earn the trust of British Columbians, we return to government. I've made a couple of commitments to British Columbians. One is that I believe that climate change is real and that we have an obligation to not only take action on it, but it's a huge economic opportunity for us, and there's also an obligation on government to protect communities from wildfire and drought. I'm running against a guy named John Rustad for the BC Conservatives. He thinks that climate change is a globalist conspiracy to depopulate the province and to force children to eat bugs.

I wish I were kidding about that. The reality is that we can't afford to think that climate change science is some kind of conspiracy. It's not. We're seeing the impacts in British Columbia right now, and we can be successful in driving down emissions. Our emissions have been going down in BC, while our population has been undergoing record growth.

We've reduced methane emissions from oil and gas facilities in British Columbia by 45%, and there's more we can do. But we can't, fulfill the transition from high carbon intensity fuels to a zero carbon future if we pretend the problem doesn't exist. In the lower mainland right now, there's a $900,000,000 private sector investment in hydrogen fueling to get rid of emissions from, heavy duty transportation. In Kelowna, there's an engine factory that's hiring hundreds of people to build hydrogen engines, and we have 16 different proposals for green hydrogen generation in British Columbia, 17 proposals for critical mineral mines across the province. There are jobs and opportunity in a low carbon future.

We won't get there with a climate denier as the premier. What's it gonna say to international investors? You're idiots for investing in a hoax theory about climate change? Give me a break. We need to encourage this investment, grow our province, protect our communities, and ensure that our kids have a livable future.

The choice is very stark this election. I really need your support. It's between climate action and climate denial. Please, I'm encouraging you. For our kids, for our future of our province, for our economic future, we've gotta take action on this.

Thanks for your support, and thanks for watching.
